My Weightloss Journey: The Introduction

Today is April 9, 2019 and the first day of my weight loss journey. I have been on a mission to loose weight for years. My most recent attempt I lost 15 lbs. Within 6 months, I had gained back that weight and more.

In March, I made a commitment to myself, and getting this weight under control is one aspect of my journey.

Reasons to loose weight

I was never over weight as a kid. My average weight as a teen was around 100 lbs. Of course, I gained my Freshman 15 at Spelman. My weight was still not a problem. I was never larger than a size 6.

I had my first child when I was 22 years old. I gained about 30 lbs during my pregnancy. I lost the first 15 lbs easily. I decided that my new found curves had me looking fine. I loved the extra weight. I had finally filled out in the right places.

However, if you add two more 50 lbs + weight gain pregnancies, bouts of depression, and a love of bread and all things unhealthy, you end up with 60 lbs of extra weight that you don’t love.

My two main reasons for this weight loss journey are health and the way I look.


I have a rare Chronic disease. You can read about it here. Being overweight just adds to the health issues that I am facing. A symptom of my disease is high blood pressure. Losing weight will hopefully stabilize it.

Even if I didn’t have FSGS, being overweight can lead to serious health issues such as diabetes and heart problems. I want 0 problems.

My goal is to continue to make memories with my family for as long as possible. I don’t want to become one because I didn’t take care of myself.


I do not like the way my body looks. It may sound vain, but I rather have a flatter stomach and leaner thighs. That’s all!

Weight Loss Goals

I don’t have a particular number on the scale that I want to reach. I would love to be in a size 10 again.

So my goals is the be healthier and fit the closet full of clothes that I have refused to giveaway. Some still have tags on them.

Jump starting my weight loss

I have had success with weight loss in the past. I joined Weight Watchers and had a local gym membership. Those were expensive.

As a mom who works outside of the home full-time, I don’t have time to figure out the restrictions that comes with being a mother and wife. Besides those things are way too expensive.

I have three kids and want to travel and explore more with them, I’ll use that extra money for those things. Here is my plan:


Increase Water Intake

I am going to increase my water intake to at least 100 oz a day. This is one of the requirements from the doctor anyway. Drinking a lot of water helps to flush out toxins and waste.

Change eating habits

I will only eat fruit and vegetables for all meals except for one. Right now I eat just fruits and veggies for breakfast and lunch. I will consume a full meal a night. I will rotate my full meal time at will.

Also, I downloaded itrackbites app from in January. This program is similar to Weight Watchers. I may began to track my food and exercise, but I haven’t decided that I am committed to that task daily.


I will be active for at least 90 minutes a week. Baby steps people! I can break that time up how I want to. I just want the amount of time active to add up to 90 minutes a week.

I will rotate between my recumbent bike, Youtube videos, and walking.
